Civil Rights in the CACFP

Lesson Overview
Individuals involved in all levels of CACFP administration must undergo civil rights training to understand federal laws, regulations, and policies.
This lesson will focus on Civil Rights, USDA’s, FNS Program Authorities, and discrimination. At the end of this lesson, you should be able to complete the following objectives:
• Identify Civil Rights legislation and Program Authorities.
• Define discrimination.
• Identify the USDA, FNS child nutrition program protected classes.
• Outline the discrimination complaint processes.

The course is hosted by the The Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN). They are a national center that focuses on applied research, education, training, and technical assistance for child nutrition programs. It is the only federally funded center of its kind in the United States. The ICN is part of the School of Applied Sciences at The University of Mississippi and was established by Congress in the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 1989

Getting Started for Daycare Centers
The online course introduces participants to serving and claiming a reimbursable meal. Enrolling children into the CACFP program, marking attendance at point of service, and meal production reports. This course does no encompass all areas of the program. But is a mandatory training for new independent sites or sponsors of traditional childcare centers, emergency shelters, at-risk afterschool care programs, or outside school hours care centers.

Getting Started for Home Providers
In this training module you will learn what is necessary for home providers to serve meals and claim the number of meals served for reimbursement.
This is the mandatory training for new independent sites or sponsors of traditional home provider care, emergency shelters, at-risk afterschool care programs, or outside school hours care centers. The training does not cover the entire scope of the program. Participants are responsible for knowing and understanding all handbooks, manuals, alerts, notices and guidance.

Serving Seniors in the cacfp
This is self-paced course to build on CACFP requirements and best practices for the Adult Day Care audience. Topics include offer vs. serve, dietary accommodations, special nutrient needs, and making mealtime pleasant. The training does not cover the entire scope of the program. Participants are responsible for knowing and understanding all handbooks, manuals, alerts, notices and guidance.
